An Electronics PhD Engineer, Fernando Herranz is a Robotics R&D Engineer at Ikergune (Etxe-Tar Group). He has over 10 years of research experience developing the architecture and implementing creative solutions for Image Processing, Machine Learning, Wireless Sensors and Mobile Robotic Systems for industry and academia. He focuses on questions such as: How can Robotics make people’s life easier?
He obtained the PhD title in 2013 from the University of Alcalá, Madrid, Spain. His PhD thesis was about using Range-Only sensors such as WiFi and SLAM techniques for assisting collaboration between human-robot teams.
He has also collaborated with the Robesafe Research Group since 2008 in several ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) and Robotics projects funded by international companies and the Spanish government. In addition, he has collaborated with international groups such as the Embedded Software Group at Delft University of Technology (Holland) and the Field Robotics Center at Carnegie Mellon University (USA).
Since 2009, He is co-funder and stakeholder of Vision Safety Technologies Ltd, a spin-off company established to commercialize computer vision systems for road infrastructure inspection.
